Professional Tutoring

With over 10 years of experience in academic mentoring—including teaching university-level and medical biochemistry—I help students bridge the gap between memorizing theory and actually mastering their exams or research tools.
I specialize in three key areas:
GAMSAT Section III Mentorship: The GAMSAT is a reasoning test, not a science recall exam. I train students to decode complex biological and physical science prompts, quickly analyze unfamiliar graphs, and apply active problem-solving frameworks to maximize their scores under time pressure.
Scientific Coding (R & Python): I provide beginner-friendly, practical tutoring for students and researchers who need to learn Python or R (including packages like tidyverse) for data analysis, statistical modeling, and scientific visualization.
University Chemistry & Biochemistry: I use interactive, scaffolded teaching methods to help you deeply understand metabolic pathways, molecular dynamics, and core chemical principles.
My sessions are highly interactive. Rather than just lecturing, I focus on building your confidence through guided practice so you can tackle high-stakes exams and data projects with clear, actionable strategies.

My journey in academia has been both diverse and deeply rewarding, filled with moments of discovery and growth. I began in biotechnology engineering but quickly discovered my true passion for chemistry and biochemistry, which led me to earn both a B.Sc. and a Ph.D. in the field.
Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to contribute significantly to the field of chemistry, with over 50 publications and more than 30 research projects in both basic and applied sciences. My teaching philosophy centers around the Socratic Method combined with problem-based learning, which not only instills a strong foundation in chemistry and biology but also hones the critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for academic and professional success.
Beyond my professional achievements, I’m passionate about science and artificial intelligence, love diving into history books, enjoy writing diaries, and cherish time spent in the wild. These interests keep me curious and grounded, qualities that I bring into my teaching to inspire and connect with my students on a deeper level.
With over ten years of experience in academic mentoring—including five years teaching biochemistry at a medical school—I specialize in helping university students and GAMSAT candidates bridge the gap between theory and application. Whether you need to master complex university chemistry, decode GAMSAT Section III reasoning prompts under time pressure, or learn R and Python for scientific data analysis, my goal is to provide targeted, strategic guidance that matches your exact needs.
Supported by a Ph.D. and extensive research experience, I possess profound knowledge in chemistry, biotechnology, and biochemistry. I have worked on over 50 publications and more than 30 research projects, including innovative applications of simulation and artificial intelligence to life science problems. For instance, I have used machine learning to gain insights into protein functions at its molecular level and 3D structure, demonstrating my dedication to incorporating advanced technology into scientific education.
My teaching approach combines the Socratic Method with problem-based learning, fostering critical thinking and active engagement. I have successfully guided students through complex topics, including fundamental chemistry principles in organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, spectroscopy, and molecular biology concepts, helping them achieve significant improvements in their academic performance. I am ready to help with lab reports too, I have used Python and R for data analysis and statistics. If you struggle with a lab report, I can help with that.
Throughout my career, I have helped students achieve measurable improvements—from boosting their GAMSAT scores and passing high-stakes university exams to confidently running their first data analyses in R or Python. Whether you are preparing for a critical medical entrance exam, navigating a tough lab report, or seeking to master core chemistry concepts, I am here to provide clear, actionable support. Send me a message, and let's discuss how we can tackle your specific goals.
I offer extensive expertise across chemistry, biochemistry, and scientific data analysis, supported by a strong academic background and practical research experience. My subject expertise includes:
- Biochemistry & Molecular Biology: Enzyme kinetics, metabolic pathways, protein structure and function, nucleic acids, cell biology, and applications in biotechnology.
University Chemistry: General chemistry (thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium), Organic chemistry (reaction mechanisms, synthesis, spectroscopy), and Analytical chemistry (chromatography, mass spectrometry).
- GAMSAT Section III Preparation: Targeted mentorship for the Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences section. I focus on developing active problem-solving strategies, graph analysis, and comprehensive study plans to handle complex prompts under time pressure.
- Scientific Coding & Data Analysis: Practical instruction in Python and R for students who need to analyze data, run statistics, or create visualizations for lab reports and research projects.
- Biomedical Dissertation & Thesis Support: Expert guidance on research methodology, interpreting complex biochemical data, and structuring scientific arguments for higher-level university projects.
Whether you are preparing for a critical medical entrance exam, tackling a postgraduate thesis, or trying to understand complex molecular concepts, I am here to provide tailored, strategic guidance to meet your academic needs.
Very helpful techniques used
Miguel had clear explanations and helped me understand topics better in thermodynamics, enzyme kinetics, and physical chemistry. We have also gone through example problems and he helped me understand the correct methods for solving certain problems. Great tutor and nice to communicate with
very good and thorough explanations
good
Good
very good explain well. thank you
The class was incredibly helpful
Really helpful techniques taught.
SUPERB Chemistry tutor, highly invested in the success of his student, tracks what needs reinforcement and closes the gaps. As for the parent, he is a pleasure to interact with as he has been extremely accommodating. We will continue with Miguel for the duration of the school year shifting from pre-exam prep to solidifying Chemistry in the next 3 years ahead of university.
My class was really good!
Verified
I hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, MD, US, where my research focused on nanotechnology, specifically using DNA to create novel materials. This work involved applying classical biochemistry techniques and several spectroscopic methods.
I also have a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador, which provided a strong liberal arts education with a solid foundation in chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
Additionally, my background in Biotechnology Engineering ignited my passion for genetics, molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology.
