About Me

I hold a PhD in Drama and I am a passionate and dedicated teacher of English and lecturer in Drama. I have over 10 years experience in supporting students with special educational needs to excel and I am committed to ensuring my students make outstanding progress against their starting points. I am passionate about making sure all students feel empowered in their learning no matter their starting point and have successfully guaranteed a progress of an average of 2-3 grades for each student I have taught. I empathise both with students who share my passion for English and Drama as well those who “just need to pass” and my non-judgmental approach makes every student feel confident and supported at the end of my lessons.

I have over 5 years experience teaching secondary students as a qualified teacher (QTS) and extensive knowledge of the GCSE and IGCSE specifications. I have lectured for 4 years and tutored university students on both BA and MA courses. My areas of expertise are English Language, Literature and Drama.

I am verified psychometric assessor for cognition and learning including IQ, handwriting speed and accuracy and working memory, all used for Access Arrangements as well as SEND provisions. Furthermore, I am qualified to support students with dyslexia. As a former SENCO and SEND leader I have ensured outstanding progress in literacy and exam outcomes for all students.

Tutor Experience

I have experience teaching arts in education and dissertation support at MA level, Critical Theory, Political Drama and Applied Theatre at BA level.

I am an experienced teacher of Drama at KS3-4level and teacher of English Language and Literature at KS3-4 level with an excellent track record of progress made (2 grades increased minimum in a year). I have significant experience tutoring English Language and Literature at KS3-4 including GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A-Level.

I have vast experience tutoring students with dyslexia and ADHD and have assessed for Access Arrangements.

My teaching philosophy is that there are no “bad” students. I tailor my teaching strategies to the aspirations of the student and their starting point empowering them to feel confident and in control of their learning. I am well versed in the the science of learning and the workings of cognition, learning and memory and so my sessions waste no time, do not overload students with jargon and endless lectures. My students achieve their learning by engaging in carefully structured prompts and never need to repeat a session or topic covered with me.
